A TEENAGE girl who was allegedly raped by a pensioner has told a jury today how he sexually assaulted her in 2015.

Norman Byron, 78, of Longfords Mill, Minchinhampton, has been declared mentally unfit to plead or stand trial by three psychiatrists, so the jury is being asked to decide if he committed the alleged offences.

Byron is accused of raping the 15-year-old girl between October 31, 2015 and January, 1, 2016.

The jurors watched two police video interviews that the girl gave in January and February last year. She was then cross examined over a live video link by Emma Knott, representing Byron.

"He was doing stuff inappropriately to me," she said. "He was touching me. On my private bits. My top half and my bottom half."

She said that the first time it happened "he put his hand down my top. He put both hands down my top. He moved them around my boobs."

She said he did this for "a couple of minutes" and said "something like 'that was nice'. I was a bit shocked."

The officer asked her if it happened again.

"He keeps touching me. Every time I went round the house, 10 – 15 times. If I went with my mum and dad, nothing would happen, but if it was just me he was always touching me. He touched me on my private parts, my front and my front bottom.

"He touched me and asked me to touch him. He tried to kiss me on the lips. If I didn't do it he would get angry, swear at me, say there was something wrong with me.

"He touched me everywhere, the front part and the bottom part. He pulled down his trousers, held my hand and tried to get me to touch his private parts.

"I would try and take my hand off. I didn't like it. I kind of find it embarrassing to talk about.

She also said that Byron would collect her from school and abuse her in his car.

"It used to happen in the car, in a lay-by near school. He would ask me to get out of school early. I would try and leave school as late as I could.

"He made me promise not to tell anyone about what he's done. He obviously knows he's going to get into trouble.

He says he knows what he's done is wrong. He said that quite often."

The girl said that after each incident she felt "a bit annoyed it's happened."

She said "He goes on about his previous wives. He goes on about how he's messed his life up. I blank it, because I don't like people shouting at me.

He's asked me to do it with him when I'm 16, but I say no every time. He's said it a few times. I get quite anxious and worried about it.

"He gives me quite a lot of money and sweets. He said I need to keep it a secret."

In her second police interview, the girl revealed the allegation that Byron had gone further than touching her and had raped her.

However she was so embarrassed, that she couldn't say the words out loud, and wrote them down on a pad of paper.
