THOMAS KEBLE School achieved record GCSE results this year with 98 per cent of students passing at least five GCSEs.

Results improved by five per cent from last year – bringing the number of students achieving five A* to C grades to 78 per cent and those earning the same marks including maths and English to 67 per cent.

One of the standout performances was 16-year-old Kate Simpson, who achieved seven A*s and four As.

“I am very happy. I put in all of my efforts for these exams and it paid off," said Kate from Rodborough, who is looking forward to studying four A-levels in biology, chemistry, maths and French at Cirencester College.

She added: "I have had a lovely time at Thomas Keble so it will be sad to leave, but I am excited to continue my studies at Cirencester."

Kate hopes to go to medical school after her A-levels.

Also collecting results on Thursday were 16-year-old friends Christina Mincher and Olivia Clark.

Christina, from Eastcombe, achieved two A*s and eight As and will now go on to study A-levels in PE, geography, biology and psychology at Cirencester College.

"I was not expecting two A*s so that was a great surprise," said Christina.

Olivia, from France Lynch, achieved four A*s, six As and two Bs.

"I am particularly pleased that I got an A* in maths and science. I am relieved all the hard work paid off," said Olivia, who is looking forward to studying four A-levels in PE, biology, psychology and maths at Downfield Sixth Form.

Retiring headteacher Chris Steer said the record results are testament to the hard work and dedication of students and the excellence of teaching.

Mr Steer, who will step down from his position in September after 14-years at the school, said: "The school has had an excellent record of results for many years, but this year has been outstanding.

“To improve our previous best by five per cent is a very significant achievement. We applaud all students who have done their very best at whatever level.”
