Top marks for headteacher Chris

CHRIS Raymond, headteacher of Nailsworth Primary School, was praised for his 'outstanding leadership' skills in a recent Ofsted report.

Inspectors said he has introduced significant reforms, including rigorous self-evaluation.

"This ensures the school works consistently to improve pupils' learning," said the report.

"Staff share his vision and middle managers are becoming increasingly involved in helping to lead the school.

"His clear vision is complemented by an outstanding governing body, which both challenges and supports him most effectively - governors know the school inside out and both support and hold it to account, as required."

The report also stated that pupils' behaviour is excellent, which contributes both to their learning and personal development.

"They love their school, have very few criticisms and have an exceptionally good understanding of how to stay healthy and safe," said the inspectors.

"Children have exceedingly positive attitudes to everything they do and describe their school as, 'the best.' "The school provides high quality care for pupils, and those with learning difficulties receive extremely effective support.

"Classrooms have a positive, dynamic atmosphere where adults and pupils alike collaborate enthusiastically to ensure good progress.

"By the time children leave school, their standards are above average and they have achieved well."

While inspectors pointed out that rates of progress in different year groups varied in the past, this problem has now been addressed.

"More able pupils were achieving less well than they might," the report stated.

"But recent improvements to teaching have begun to successfully address these issues, boosting the progress and standards of all pupils."

Nailsworth Primary School received an overall grade 2, being good, but did achieve outstanding for personal development and wellbeing and curriculum.
