MADAM - There have been proposals for the construction of 150 houses at Mankley Fields in Leonard Stanley and for another 50 houses at Woodside Lane in King’s Stanley — in addition to 50-plus houses recently built and the 90 proposed for Stanley Mill.

Two hundred-plus houses at Mankley/Woodside implies well in excess of 300 additional cars.

All of these would routinely travel along one of the following roads:

1. Marsh Road/St Swithin’s — single track for most of its 400-metre length (parked cars).

2. Bath Road (west) — single track for around 200 metres (parked cars) with severe congestion at school times.

3. Bath Road (east)/Severn Waters towards Frocester — single track for 200 metres (parked cars) and an already dangerous pick-up/drop-off point for school buses.

4. Broad Street leading to Middleyard — congestion at school times, single track at bottom of/along Middleyard Hill (parked cars).

5. Stanley Downton/Bridgend — narrow road, parked cars and frequent flooding.

6. Brockley Road — single track for 75 metres by St George’s Church, forcing cars to back up at the busy junction with St George’s Road and where there is very poor line of sight.

7. Ryeford Road South over the single track and frequently flooded Ryeford Bridge — there is already a dangerous junction with Selwyn Close where there was another serious accident (car hitting a tree) a week ago.

The No. 14 bus travels hourly along the first five of these in both directions and frequently has difficulty coping with parked cars. These roads are crowded and dangerous and cannot absorb another 300 cars.
