MADAM, I am writing to express gratitude and delight, having visited Archway School this week to watch the musical production Little Shop Of Horrors.

In fact, these shows have become an annual highlight and the music department has established a great reputation for inspiring its pupils into producing musical masterpieces, year after year.

On this occasion the team have surpassed themselves with their interpretation of Alan Menken’s colourful and comedic Little Shop Of Horrors, the tale of a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh.

The music is written in the genre of 1960s rock n roll and motown and features songs such as Skidrow (Downtown), Somewhere That’s Green, Suddenly Seymour and Feed Me.

The cast themselves all performed with such enthusiasm and energy, and sang their hearts out, throughout (as did a number of audience members, including myself).

The Doo Wah Girls delivered an authentic, powerful and soulful sound, as did the Chorus Boys; collectively their close harmony work was quite exceptional.

Daniel Holden (Seymour) is obviously a natural comedian and performer, and was ably assisted by Molly May Kent as the lovely Audrey.

Even the plant itself raised the roof on several occasions.

My heartfelt congratulations to the entire cast and crew (supremely directed, as always, by Rosamund Tyler and Peter Tims).

More, please . . . more.
