MADAM - I was interested to read the poem by Steve Cook, SNJ March 19.

The pothole saga goes on unabated.

I recall that last year I contributed to the discussion with a picture of a ‘Pot Hole Gang’ hard at work.

Apparently the Government is proposing to dish out £140million to Gloucestershire County Council as a contribution to the cost of still incorrectly infilling these accursed pot holes.

Incorrectly as typified by their recent exercise on the B4008, M5 Junction 12 to Stonehouse, where they earlier infilled them and all the unsealed Macadam rolled out again in under three weeks.

Now another costly attempt has been made to deal with this which will also fail, in due time, for the same reason.

Infilling without first correctly ‘keying in’ the Macadam and then sealing around the edges to the roadway with liquid tar will always quickly fail, guaranteed (lessons have not been learned).

Previously it was all the fault of the snowy, icy, winter weather.

This time around it’s been the fault of the extremely bad continuous rainfall.

So, come this promised hot summer it’ll no doubt be the fault of the hot sun (tar melts you know).

Since Gloucestershire highways department is seemingly incapable of doing the work correctly, maybe a more appropriate use of these pot holes could be permitted this summer as per my photograph.
