MADAM – I attended Uplands Primary School recently in my role as chairman of SDC to view the work of Eagles Class pupils on their event Welcome to the Future.
I came away from meeting every child in this event feeling the future was brighter and confident, as our next generation was going to be in good hands.
These pupils had a good grasp of our local history, what we locally manufactured and where, the present and all its current issues regarding waste, recycling and energy-saving ideas.
Their enthusiasm for this assignment was evident as it showed in their approach to this task, which was wide and varied.
There were several qualities which stood out to me from every pupil I chatted to: and it was their manners, social skills, intelligence, and the knowledge of maths in knowing the times tables.
I spoke to one pupil who stated they had attained several iPads for making their own music as a result of being able to know the times tables up to the ‘twelve times’.
When I randomly tested her on the twelve, the nines and eight times table, I saw her cognitive recall expressed on her face as she answered in nano-seconds.
I am sure there are other local schools in the district equally attaining these levels and with equally good Ofsted reports as of Uplands.
I say well done and give yourselves a pat on your backs.
