MADAM – Can I start by congratulating The Baxters Field Action Group and commiserating with those who opposed Mankley Field.
The latter was a dreadful decision which goes against every element of local democracy.
Instead of Stroud’s MP bleating that this would not have happened if Stroud District Council had its local plan in place, it would be good to think of one action that he has taken to help this to happen?
He might like to consider that it was his votes that led to the imposition of the National Planning Policy Framework, known otherwise as a “developers’ charter”. Rather he has instigated unwanted and unnecessary development which will do nothing to provide a future for the Stroud area.
The so-called Carmichael Commission is nothing more than a fig leaf to cover his work with local developers.
He is now promoting improvements to the A419 when this is merely a pretence to get a new settlement west of Stonehouse, and floating the idea of moving Stonehouse’s station, something which has already been ruled out by the rail authorities, without even having the courtesy of talking to local representatives.
Sadly this is what you get when the MP continues to act as Westminster’s man in the constituency and not lead the fight against these dreadful impositions.
