MADAM - So Mr Carmichael thinks it is actions of the Labour-led council causing developers to target green fields in the Stroud district?

How then does he explain the problems they are having from the same issue on green fields in Conservative-led councils from Worcestershire to Oxfordshire, Cheshire to Warwickshire?

Some of these councils only have one Labour councillor, but they have refused development and then had a government inspector allow hundreds of houses to be built.

I saw from the Crewe and Nantwich Chronicle recently that Conservative Cheshire East Council has spent £400,000 fighting planning applications but lost them all.

So please stop the dishonest political attacks, Mr Carmichael - and tell your government that it’s got things badly wrong.
