MADAM – Re your ‘Staff sub headline’ in the SNJ August 20 page four.
‘Appeal to find bike stolen by towpath’.
Incorrect and a terrible misuse of our beautiful language, English.
Please note: Towpaths are inanimate objects incapable of stealing anything.
It would also be incorrect to state: ‘Appeal to find bike stolen from towpath,’ as this would imply that the towpath owned the bike.
Your sub headline should have read: ‘Appeal to find bike stolen away from the towpath”.
