MADAM – Reading Karen Eberhardt-Shelton’s article re car parks reminded me of the history of the old meadow on which Weavers Croft stands.
Along with the construction of the building, a row of lime trees was needlessly destroyed and the remaining clear land planted with some kind of lush grass useless to wildlife.
Much NHS money went into mowing this.
My partner wrote to the NHS trust years ago, asking if a wildflower area could be laid instead of the ‘lawn’.
She was told that the future of the grounds was under consideration.
This week heavy machines have been grinding up and down, excavating to a depth of a metre after an application was made for a temporary car park for 44 cars.
How temporary will this will be?
