MADAM - I am grateful to Dick Greenslade (letters November 5, 2014) for reinforcing my diagnosis of selective amnesia amongst the recession deniers in our midst.
He has clearly forgotten prudence, that favourite of Gordon Brown when he helped persuade us that he was to be trusted with the strong economy that he inherited when he came to power.
Alas, prudence was soon jilted when Gordon’s spendthrift ways required evermore borrowing, which is why we now have such a crippling national debt.
We are all now having to pay the interest on this debt and haven’t even started to pay off the actual debt.
The extent of this will be revealed to us all when we start to receive the explanations of how our tax is spent that HMRC will be sending us shortly. That is what I mean by failing to fix the roof when the sun is shining.
Never mind, Mr Greenslade and his friends won’t worry, they will just forget it.
