MADAM – Last Friday evening, Stroud erupted into a river of beautiful handmade lanterns of every shape and size, winding its way through the Goodwill Evening, led by a magnificent 12ft lantern-angel with its maker, Herewood Gabriel, walking inside it. This event could never have happened in such a splendid way had it not been for the inspiration and encouragement of Lis Parker.

She organised a lantern-making venue in central Stroud, produced materials and tools, and each early evening encouraged men, women and children to let their creativity take flight. And, of course, she had to clean up all the gluey, glittery mess afterwards.

Stroud can now nobly join the growing number of towns which are creating their own winter lantern festivals. So a very big thank you to Lis.
