MADAM – Caroline Stephens, chairman of the United Kingdom Independence Party Stroud branch says “Ukip candidates don’t sign pledges”.
It would be interesting to find out what Ukip are willing to sign up to.
We have no clear understanding of their policies, apart from one – get out of Europe.
She says “as a parliamentary candidate, I am inundated with pledges to sign from lobby groups”.
I would ask her this: when all other parties have signed up to a Climate Change Pledge, because scientifically speaking, there is no greater real and present danger to our country and our world, could she possibly stop her rhetoric and see that this is not a “perversion of democracy,” but a way of engaging with the most important issue facing mankind?
As to Europe – after the commemoration of one hundred years since the First World War began, in which many of us lost relatives, I would like to remind her that Europe, as a concept, was brought together after the Second World War in order for us to work together with the countries we fought, in order that wars, in which so many lost their lives, would never happen again.
Ukip ignore this one fact when they bang their anti-Europe drum, and fund themselves with European subsidies.
Their latest ally in the European parliament is a Polish MEP, Robert Iwaszkiewicz.
Caroline Stephens defends Ukip’s democratic right not to sign up to a Climate Change Pledge.
Now defend signing up to be allied with a right-wing Polish party who have spoken positively of Hitler’s tax policies.
