MADAM - Thank you for publishing my letter entitled – “Fly tipping seems bound to increase” – in the December 17 edition of the SNJ.

In it I made reference to a discarded mattress in Brickrow.

Also, since I originally wrote the letter the mattress had been joined by an armchair.

I must inform you of progress here in that on Thursday, December 18 – the day after the letter was published – I just happened to be walking up Brickrow around midday when I saw a flatbed lorry belonging to the housing association in the parking area of the housing association where the mattress and armchair had been dumped.

Employees of the housing association were loading the mattress and armchair on to their vehicle in order to remove such items from the area.

Now the question is, was this just a coincidence that this removal should happen the day after my letter was published?

Or could it possibly be the result of someone from Stroud District Council and/or the housing association reading my letter and then ordering the housing association to deal with the dumped items forthwith in view of the length of time the mattress had been there?

Had someone possibly been embarrassed into action?

I leave readers to draw their own conclusions to this.

I certainly have mine and will leave readers with the following statement – ‘the power of the press’.
