ON the controversial decision by Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles to approve plans for the Javelin Park incinerator.

Posted by tomttom: Tragic - really tragic. It seems neither the people nor the planet matter. This incinerator uses discredited technology to burn material that could and should be automatically recycled. Instead we polluting the planet and waste 80 per cent of the available energy. And it does so in a £500 million Government supported legacy, a horrendous building which will forever be a reminder to the people of Gloucestershire that what we think, and our environment does not matter.

Our public servants have let us down, very, very badly.

A technical background to the case against can be read here: http://tinyurl.com/o On the death of former teacher Arthur Woollard at the age of 85.

Posted by adamsell3: How sad. I can recall him as if it were yesterday in the metal work room with his white coat and black shiny hair.

He was a very nice man with a good heart. The pupils loved him. He even gave some of us a ride home back in the 80s when he bought a new Citroen.

He wore Dr Martens shoes which elevated his status over night.

What a pity I never saw him again after I left in the mid 1980s - a lifetime ago.

On the increase in rail fares rise.

Posted by Adrrian George: We should have a European style carnet of discounted tickets as opposed to a season ticket.

This would encourage regular commuters to minimise the journeys they make by working at home whenever possible thus both saving themselves money and minimising the extent of congestion.

Posted by Cuetip: Travelling by train used to be quite comfortable and enjoyable but increasingly it has become an unpleasant experience as overcrowding and paying high fares begin to irritate and bite into one’s soul.
