MADAM - I have a hearing problem and wear hearing aids in both ears.

When first diagnosed some ten years ago at GRI I was told the waiting list for hearing aids was some 15 months.

Without hearing aids I would have lost my job protecting children, so had to buy them privately.

I subsequently complained to the Ombudsman who found in my favour and my costs were reimbursed.

We now hear that some commissioning groups around the country are downgrading the provision of hearing aids.

There is a mistaken belief that such aids are a lifestyle choice.

In fact they are vital to the hearing of the disabled. Without them we are socially isolated and older people are taken wrongly to be confused.

It is shameful that in today’s NHS it is accepted that health provision can be refused.

What have we come to?

Our coalition government has lost its moral compass.

The sooner they go, the better for us all.
