MADAM – As I was walking down the pedestrianised High Street in Stroud on the morning of Friday, January 16 I was knocked flying after being struck by a vehicle.
I was saved from probably serous injury by a man who rushed uphill towards me and saved me from crashing to the ground.
I would really like to thank him as I was too shocked and confused at the time to do so properly.
It turned out that a courier van had been reversing silently down the hill behind me, which in a pedestrian area at a busy time of day was like playing a form of Russian roulette.
Further up the upper High Street there was a large hole in the road with at least two, possibly three, large white vans belonging to an electricity company, making it impossible, I suppose, for the courier’s van to go up to the top and turn.
I should also like to thank the police who came to look for me, for their care and attention after they saw the incident on CCTV. It is good to know that surveillance can be benign.
