MADAM – Hope some readers can help.
Does anyone have pictures of:
a) The London Hotel when it was derelict some 40-odd years ago, the car park area was the garden then, before the extension was added.
b) The building joined to the former Pelican.
c) The paper shop and general store opposite the Clothiers Arms, as it was at that time.
In the late 1970s they used to sell filled rolls to order when all the local factories were in operation.
d) And can someone tell me where I found my photocopy of Summer Street taken from the Uplands, which shows the 1830s school, later a hall, which stood near the Oddfellows? I thought it came from The Stroud Valley Illustrated 1903 but it didn’t. This aroused a lot of interest at the Summer Street Exhibition showing all the housing which was lost to ‘slum clearance’ in the 1960s and 1970s, now sought after for restoration.
I should like to obtain a better copy.
