ON Conservative Neil Carmichael being elected as Stroud MP for a second term.

Posted by TigerTigerBurningBright: Thank you David Drew for your work for Stroud. It is a shame for you that your leader was such a twonk, also that the Tories tactic was to scare voters with the SNP putting Labour in.

What an interesting five years we are going to have. Probably lose Scotland, serious damage to the NHS, austerity will continue with more local services cut, and a referendum on the EU which the Tories are likely to mess up like they have messed up Scotland.

Posted by robertpaterson3: To me Drew is “old people”. He’s the past. Stroud Labour should have picked a much younger person and preferably a woman.

Posted by mattyfrog: Nice to know the people of Stroud support the badger cull and the incinerator Posted by Aldebron: Well done Neil. You have done so much for Stroud over the past five years. Keep up the good work Posted by Haloge: If the election results prove anything it is that the present FPTP system is unfit for purpose and discriminatory. The sooner we have a just PR electoral system the sooner Parliament will truly represent the opinions of the electorate. While I am not a supporter of Ukip, it was supported by 12.7 per cent of the electorate who could be bothered to vote. This would mean that it would have approximately 82 seats under a PR system instead of the one seat it currently holds. Similarly, the Greens (one seat) would instead have 25 seats, and the SNP would have 31 seats, while the LibDems would have 51 seats and not the eight they are reduced to under FPTP.

Posted by TigerTigerBurningBright: Ukip was a protest vote. It is something you can do with FPTP. If you don’t think it was, have a look at those seats they expected to win. They didn’t win them. The possibility of Ukip actually winning a normal seat scares the voters off.
