ON Urbaser Balfour Beatty’s community fund which will pay out money to communities affected by the Javelin Park incinerator.

Posted by mark@splatsoft.co.uk: And who will ultimately pay for the compensation fund? The taxpayers of Gloucestershire through inflated waste disposal charges.

If, as project director Javier Peiro has said ‘we are committed to providing the best solution possible to manage the waste from Gloucestershire’s circa 600,000 residents’ - why are they still continuing with plans to use an overpriced, inefficient and highly polluting incinerator design when much better, cheaper and sustainable models are out there?

Maybe our MP should be pushing for a review of the technology proposed, rather than compensation for the aftermath of the disastrous choices made by a few county councillors?

Posted by jamg3916: Compensation is not going to help the environment or the possible effects on people’s health....why do they always think money is the answer?

Posted by James Makepeace: House prices in Haresfield and other areas close to this monster will see a dramatic fall if construction goes ahead.

Doubtless UBB have something in mind around £25k in compensation ... to be spread around all the adjacent parishes of course... whereas £25K per household won’t even come close to compensating people for what they have lost in property value terms alone.

On the £15 million Heritage Lottery Fund bid to restore four miles of the Stroudwater canal.

Posted by Salendine: The work that has been carried out to date as a credit to the enthusiasts. I do have a concern though.

Without the development of Brimscombe Port in to a canal basin where boats can moor and turn around the whole project is beginning to look like a canal to nowhere.

What are the plans to attract boats along the canal, and for them to be able to moor and turn around?
