I REFER to the short letter from Mr Richard Spencer (SNJ July 1) regarding the justice system in this country.

Mr Spencer is correct in what he writes.

I recently had a civil court experience where the judge couldn’t make up his mind between plaintiff and defendant and took the “easy way out” in my opinion.

On the evidence, watching the body language of ‘his honour’ coupled with his pronouncements through one hour, it was obvious to me that he didn’t know ‘one part of his anatomy from his elbow’!

As for the rest, it is well past time that judges – so called – were enforced to rid themselves of their wigs and gowns etc, all as outdated as the dramatic black cap – before the rope (although I add, that in our present day liberalised uncivilised society, that this latter should be quickly reinstated).

As for Michael Gove MP, the justice secretary, saving £12 billion, I suggest that this would be better done by enforced salary cuts on these bewigged echelons, many completely out of touch, in an outdated system and whilst at it take a productive gander at solicitors fees.

At the least this would bring them all, especially the former, into “our very real world”.
