ON TUESDAY, July 28, road works commenced in Nailsworth without any warning or advance information to my knowledge.

I telephoned Gloucestershire Highways, but no one was available to speak to me about this.

I was given a reference number, 11064878 and promised a call back for Wednesday.

We had a family gathering and party scheduled for the Saturday and I wanted to know what the road situation would be.

As I had not had the promised call back on Wednesday, I sent an email to Glos Highways requesting an explanation.

I sent a follow-up email on Friday.

In the meantime, we had spoken to workmen on the site and received assurances that the road would not be closed over the weekend.

We found heavy machinery parked on Pike Lane on Friday evening and this remained there until Monday morning.

We had to contact all our guests and caterers to advise them of the awkward access arrangements.

On August 3, I emailed Gloucestershire County Council with my complaint about this situation and had an acknowledgement from their ‘customer services’ (This title must be some sort of joke).

They advised that ‘we will forward your email to the relevant department’.

I sent a further email on August 4, but of course the work has finished, the diversions have been removed and everyone has moved on.

I don’t need any of the information any longer but am left angry about the lack of information originally and about not even being advised of the work in the first place. Those at the top of GCC need our votes to stay in post but they will not have mine at the next opportunity.
