PERHAPS I may suggest corrections to your story “A step closer to reopening disused line” (SNJ August 5).
The line concerned is far from closed – it is the main line from Bristol to Cheltenham, Birmingham and the north and is very busy with local and long-distance trains.
Gloucester, Cam and Dursley and Yate are nearby open stations on this line.
(Of course there was the Midland branch from Stonehouse Bristol Road to Stroud and Nailsworth, which closed to passenger traffic in 1947 and freight in 1966.)The proposal is to re-instate a station on the main line, as there used to be.
There is no proposal for “re-electrification” of this line, which never has been electrified!
(The ongoing electrification programme is the line from London to Bristol and South Wales)
