HAVING heard the latest response of David Cameron to the refugee crisis, namely that it would not solve the crisis if the UK took in more refugees, I think it is time for decent people in Britain to speak out in favour of taking in our fair share of refugees, who after all come to Europe to escape the carnage of war in their country and who have the right to seek asylum under the Geneva Convention.
This has nothing to do with the influx of economic migrants, who come to Europe to look for a better life.
That, which is also understandable, but unconnected to the question of refugees, looking for safety, after having escaped the nightmare of having to fear for their life.
Cameron’s attitude towards refugees and their plight is shamefully inadequate and selfish, as is the stance of the whole British government.
It is our moral obligation to take in our fair share of refugees and to welcome them in our communities.
