ON Stroud District Council’s statement that it is ‘ready to play its part’ after David Cameron announced that Britain will accept 20,000 Syrian refugees.

Posted by Mad in Stroud: I believe we should all share the accommodation of genuine refugees into our society but we should consider other refugees, rather than the current wave from Syria. We do have to consider our own interest, and a large influx of refugees almost all being Muslim deserves consideration as to the impact upon our country.

We have a Muslim population in this country which is growing at a greater rate than our indigenous population - we have 2.4 kids, they have more. So within a few generations there is the distinct possibility that Muslim may be in a majority in this country.

Posted by Haloge: I must agree with Mad in Stroud with regard to some Islamic countries in the affected areas NOT allowing Syrian refugees into their countries. Notable amongst these are Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf States, who interesting enough are not signed up to the UN Charter on Refugees, and obviously have their own reasons, probably centred around self-interest, for showing their usual humanitarian concern for their fellow Muslims.

No one likes to see bodies washing up on beaches but ISIS will take full advantage of the resulting sympathy shown by those who run the EU provinces. Stroud District Council is incredibly naive. And Cameron is so desperate to appease our central government on the Continent. By the way, how did Neil Carmichael vote in the Commons’ vote on purdah? Did he vote with Cameron for unlimited spending by the UK and EU Governments in the closing weeks of the EU Referendum, or did he instead show a bit of backbone?

I suspect that he stood with Cameron and without backbone.
