DALE Vince appears to be miffed that Eastington villagers have reservations about his proposed football stadium and business park (SNJ, September 9) but to say that as Eastington is more than a mile away traffic won’t be going through it frankly misses the point.
Traffic numbers are currently being collated on the A419 near the proposed development but let’s not forget that many commuters have already decamped from this road onto the two main rat runs (through Eastington or Stonehouse) because of congestion.
It is surely logical to assume that the volume of traffic generated by this development will lead to an exponential increase in drivers looking for alternative routes.
Unfortunately, many of the drivers on the Eastington rat run have no respect for the 30mph speed limit so any increase in through traffic will have a adverse effect on the quality of life of many villagers.
Lastly, development on a green field site cannot be as eco-friendly as on a brown field site -– why not build on Javelin Park.?
We are happy with our green gym and council facilities.
