ON Stroud Town Council’s decision to write to MP Neil Carmichael in a plea for the UK to take in more refugees.

Posted by Haloge: I trust that Mr Carmichael will ignore the ramblings of Stroud Town Council, as they unfortunately have a reputation for it. “More barbed wire is not the answer.” Indeed Kevin, and nor is unfettered immigration by people whose true motives are questionable, and whose true numbers are legion.

While I’m a not a natural fan of Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán, on this occasion, I have to totally agree with his response to the situation. I suggest that we should do likewise.

Posted by Phyllus Jones: Though well-intentioned, this is a massive mistake. The UK is already very crowded. Stroud has twice the population of just 50 years ago. For every person yelling ‘bring more in’, I’m sure there are at least an equal number with the opposite view. Problem is that the quiet majority doesn’t speak out because of a fear of being accused of being racist or xenophobic.

Posted by Allan Zed: Very generous and open-hearted the people of Stroud are, no doubt about that. However, an open heart in the absence of an open mind is no good news ever, and the constant misinformation (amounting to brainwashing) by the media isn’t exactly conducive to maintaining an open (realistic, ethical and rational) mind on the matter. If all the young blokes are forming such an orderly queue at the doors of the cushier parts of Europe, then who is left back at home to fight IS.

Posted by Haloge: Absolutely Allan. Regrettably, the whole debate is limited by Islamophobia and fear of offending the faithful, the politically correct and Social Justice Warriors who are all easily offended.

I would probably say that if any people in the Middle East are worthy of refugee status then it would be the Coptic Christians, the Yazidis, and the Baha’is, who are all being persecuted by Muslims of all persuasions.
