IN agreeing with Mr Kennish (letters September 9) that scientific theories also become beliefs I had credited him with the ability to recognise the difference between well founded belief based on evidence and mere superstition.
I apologise for my mistake.
Having rested his somewhat threadbare case he then proceeds to a quite irrelevant description of the earth’s movement through space.
I know of no-one who thinks that the earth moves in an ellipse in absolute terms.
It moves in an ellipse relative to the sun.
The sun and its galaxy also move.
All movement is relative.
I’m not sure why Mr Kennish thinks this is relevant to his argument or why he has had a novel insight requiring explanation.
Another 200 words wasted I’m afraid.
