THE other evening I was chatting with friends about the dire situation of the Syrian refugees.

One suggested the possibility of using Tricorn House to house quite a considerable number of families.

It seems such an obvious solution as the services are all there, bus services run in all directions, there are two supermarkets within easy walking distance and parking would not be an issue.

We felt the owners and Stroud District Council could come to a financial arrangement and, with some partitioning and installation of basic necessities, many units could be created quickly.

Stroud is a very kind and charitable place, so home-making needs would soon be donated. Also it would not take homes from the already overburdened housing list. Many other issues would need to be addressed, such as health, education and employment but it would surely serve as an instant shelter for some of these beleaguered families and from the town’s point of view, put action behind the many words of hope that something can and will be done.
