AS A regular reader of the SNJ, I was surprised to read the new ‘Trip Advisor’ style feature on The Bear in Bisley.

It gave a very poor review of the food there by a ‘secret diner’.

Both myself and my friend Ian Morrison (owner of The Retreat pub in Stroud) decided to visit The Bear after several recommendations.

We have eaten there before but were aware of the change of management and decided to try it out.

We arrived for a Sunday roast with our families and were met with a warm welcome.

All six of us ordered the roast dinner.

The meat was perfectly cooked and the vegetables were delicious and plentiful.

As an extra treat the mint and horseradish sauces were homemade and excellent.

We all finished off with various desserts which were equally delightful.

In our opinion this was one of the best Sunday lunches we have had in the area and we sent our compliments to the chef Toby (as I discovered).

I would not normally review a pub via your newspaper but thought it unfair that the feature was published without the Bear being able to respond.

Hopefully this will redress the balance.

We will definitely be eating there again very soon.
