ON Network Rail’s decision to refuse to consider reopening the Bristol Road railway station in Stonehouse.

Posted by Glevum: So short-sighted. The opening of this line would give a massive boost to the local area and reduce traffic. In light of the current and proposed developments surely this link is vital?

On the plans to develop Brimscombe Port into a complex of shops, restaurants and up to 150 homes.

Posted by BigBoy22: More traffic, more problems. Brimscombe is a totally unsuitable place for a development of this size.

Posted by CharlieTheWhiteVanMan: Like many other Brimscombe residents, I’m delighted the much-needed redevelopment is once more going ahead.

Posted by taylorpen: Well, that should put the final nail in the coffin of Stroud retail! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

Posted by Salendine: Calm down folks. The £2 million will only open up the port, it won’t develop it. There aren’t any developers on board, and existing buildings (eg Rush Skatepark) are already leased out for several years. To cover the infrastructure costs there needs to be plenty of housing, not shops. It’s years away, and it won’t be a big retail site.

Posted by B.wildered: Developing this area for retail and leisure should be kept to an absolute minimum. Anything more will do far more harm to the centre of Stroud than any supermarket will. Housing definitely and possibly some office space and light industrial. It is an ideal place for Rush Skatepark, so other similar businesses should be OK too. If they think that developing the area for tourism is a good idea, they will lose the potential footfall in to Stroud centre and businesses will suffer. It will then be better compared to how the centre of Gloucester has deteriorated. Firstly, by lack of investment and secondly, with the development of all the out of town retail shopping.
