ABOVE and beyond the call of duty, a tribute to Mrs Chantry, the late health worker.
I’ve known Mrs Chantry since I was 10 when she visited my brother who had TB and when my sister had to convalesce at home after having a big operation.
She brought fruit from the Red Cross and silks for embroidery.
She was there for me when I had both of my children.
Always dressed in a smart grey costume she would cuddle the babies and if they dribbled on her shoulder she didn’t worry she would always make you feel comfortable.
If there was another baby in need of clothes she would ask if you had any spare.
I was lucky she lived near me, if I was worried about my children you could always knock on her door. She never talked down to you. Such a lovely lady and she was a boon to my other sister when she had twins.
