BRIAN Oosthuysen states in his letter that gaining a majority at the last election with 24 per cent of votes available to all registered voters – including those who did not vote – was hardly a democratic result for the Conservatives.
Actually, they gained 36.7 per cent of all votes cast.
Perhaps even more to the point, the Labour Party won re-election in 2005 with the support of 21 per cent of all registered voters.
