THE article about Bowbridge Bridge and the towpath situation could leave room for misunderstanding.
It states: “The work is part of phase 1a of the Cotswold Canals Trust’s restoration project.”
Phase 1A is under the overall management of Stroud District Council and this particular bridge project is being managed by GCC.
The project is joint funded by SDC and GCC.
My concern is that the public might gain the impression from the article that it is the Cotswold Canals Trust that has made the decision not to include a towpath under the new bridge when the trust is not in a position to make such a decision.
A towpath under the bridge is obviously desirable and the Trust (and others) have suggested potential solutions that could provide one but recognise that GCC is working within a quite significant set of complex constraints at this site.
Whatever the outcome, the trust is expecting the arrangement for towpath users to be significantly better than what was previously there.
