ON Stroud railway station, which featured on Michael Portillo’s Great British Railway Journeys on Wednesday.

Posted by Phyllus Jones: Stroud should be extremely proud of its Victorian railway station. One of the finest examples in the UK. I understand that at least the buildings on the north side and the pedestrian bridge are listed, also of course the Goods Shed.

On the £70 fine issued to a dog walker who failed to clear up after her pet defecated near a children’s play area in Nailsworth. The woman failed to take any bags with her.

Posted by Mister Champagne: Glad to see some action being taken. The woman shouldn’t have taken the dog to the park to defecate in the first place. And we all know very well that some means of clearing up after your pet is necessary when taking it out into public spaces.

On Labour district councillor Doina Cornell’s criticisms of the Government’s policy on combatting climate change.

Posted by aruncappi: “Our policy is to decarbonise the energy sector – but this must be done at the lowest possible cost to the consumer.” This is a lie. Onshore wind and solar PV are the lowest cost forms of low carbon energy, yet the Government is destroying these sectors at the expense of their choice of high cost energy - nuclear and offshore wind and gas, which still emits large volumes of CO2 and will require large subsidy to build new power stations. When will the press challenge the Government on these ridiculous statements ?

Posted by bobirving: The Tories’ energy strategy is based on ridiculous speculation that anyone will be able to build the planned nuclear power stations - the French one and Finnish one are nowhere near completion - and that anyone will find sufficient gas to frack.

Posted by aruncappi: And they have been subject to massive cost increases, delays and technical design faults.
