REGARDING the recent article about the new Bowbridge Bridge becoming one lane.

I am very concerned by an article which said the new bridge at Bowbridge may only be single lane to allow for the towpath to pass underneath it.

This should be widely reported because a single lane bridge would cause traffic tailbacks onto the Cirencester Road and may well cause gridlock at that junction if the traffic cannot pass freely over the bridge at busy times.

This sounds like a recipe for road chaos and annoyance for nearby residents, businesses and all road users.

The Stroud public should know about this development and have a chance to voice objections immediately as the bridge appears to be being built now.

Did Stroud residents know about this in advance or is it a late development being slipped in?

Where did this idea come from?

Who agreed it?

As far as I am aware the road crossing this bridge has always been two lanes, and towpath users used steps up one side and down the other to access it.

Why change that for a more inefficient system?
