LIKE many people in Stroud, I owe a debt of gratitude to Julian Usborne, whose death was reported in the March 23 edition of your paper.
Without his agreement to personally underwrite the considerable costs of funding a High Court case over the future of 57-62 High Street and then the subsequent public enquiry, I doubt I would have found the courage to continue the fight.
And later, when, despite our best fundraising efforts, we failed to completely repay that debt, his magnanimity in declining further payment made guilt feel inappropriate.
