ON the story from the SNJ archives about how people across Stroud welcomed Belgian refugees during the First World War.

Posted by Phyllus Jones: Just after WWII, my mum Joan helped care for a young German, Ludy Geisinger, in Cashes Green. He lived with his grandmother just off Hillcrest Road. I believe his father was in the German Army. I remember Ludy heading off to Randwick School every day wearing his lederhosen. He had a slight German accent. I understand that he moved to Bristol later in life. It takes time to heal after wars. Some argue that the EU was formed to stop future wars in Europe. Sadly, the EU has been a disaster and I’ll be voting for the UK to revert back from EU province to independent self-governing country on June 23.

On the state-of-the-art speed camera installed on the A46 between Nailsworth and Stroud at Rodborough.

Posted by Rich Wiltshire: It’s not a matter of how much ‘revenue is raise’ by speed cameras - think of the NHS costs avoided because accidents are reduced, think of how much would be spent on emergency services, costs of delays, court costs. Think how much families will save on funeral expenses.

I heartily approve of speed cameras and enforcement of traffic laws.

Posted by Malcolm Cooper: I’m of the view that speed reduction has been shown to cut the number of serious injuries. It would therefore, be obvious to do anything possible to reduce the speed of motorised vehicles. This may even lead to me paying less for my car insurance. Less injuries leading to less claims.

On the district council’s decision to approve a planning application for Stroud’s first micro pub.

Posted by JMarkDodds: Jolly good. How many pubs in Stroud have closed already, and do many of the remaining pubs just sell dull mass market insipid beers?
