I AM writing in response to the letter in a recent copy of the Stroud News & Journal entitled “Speed camera’s in wrong spot” and wish to clarify the following.

The new ANPR camera has not been put up at the instigation of the parish council.

It is as a result of continued effort and hard work on the part of Rodborough Road Safety Working Group.

This group have worked tirelessly over the past four years to improve road safety in our area.

This has included carrying out speed watch operations with equipment supplied by the police.

We have also installed the temporary 30mph signs in parts of the community and been out with the interactive speed sign also provided by the police.

We meet once a month at the community hall and any interested parties are welcome to attend.

Unfortunately, we have had no one attend to cover the A46 Golden Cross to Wallbridge for several years.

Where the camera is currently located is clearly a justifiable position given the number of serious accidents we have had over recent years and the very high speeds recorded by the camera in its first few weeks of operation.

The camera is moveable and we have identified a number of other locations where it will be moved to in the next 12 months.

There are no councillors living in the area where the camera is currently located.

One councillor, Charles Pedrick, has been very proactive in finding partners to get this technology to work and he lives on the other side of the parish.

We have also benefitted greatly from the support of the Police and Crimes Commissioner Martin Surl who has set out one of his key policies, that of improving road safety in Gloucestershire.

We understand fully, Ms Bainbridge’s frustrations and we would be pleased to see what we could do to assist, if she or her neighbours were to attend our meetings.
