HEADS - highways win, tails we motorists lose!
I am constantly reading in the national press of the poor state of our pothole-ridden roads and I am now able to join the protesters!
With an almost flat front tyre, I visited the tyre experts who questioned whether my car had been in an accident or been involved in a minor ‘bump’.
My answer was ‘no’ and the technician’s closer inspection resulted in him informing me I was another pothole victim and he said ‘we see ‘em almost daily’.
It is rare now to find a smooth road that does not contain these dangerous ‘gullies’.
The close inspection revealed two tyres were ruined, even though the tread on both looked good but the tracking (wheel alignment) was way out as a result of surfing these damned holes.
A close friend who resides in Wiltshire spends a lot of time motoring through the south of England and I quote him as saying: “In my experience Gloucestershire must be the worst county for potholes.”
Fancy that!
Now here’s an issue for the powers that be – motorists know the penalties for driving in a car that is not in a fit state for the road (eg bad tyres) – but why should we have to drive on roads that are not fit for the car?
The tyre technician suggested having wheel alignment checked every time a bad pothole is encountered!
Wonderful!
Highly impractical and rather expensive.
There are many of these hazards with white paint round them.
As some have been like it for ages, are these ‘adornments’ merely to assure us they will be repaired?
Meanwhile, like many other motorists, these monstrosities just cost me £300. Happy motoring.
