SO, 48,000 speeding motorists are let off with a warning.

I have never heard of a drunk driver being let off with a warning despite the fact that more people are killed by speeding motorists than by drunk ones.

Why is this?

Why do the police appear to look upon speeding as a silly lark, whilst drunk drivers feel the full severity of the law.

Both offences cause death and injury.

Are people killed by speeders somehow less dead than those killed by drink-drivers?

The police should treat both the same.

They say that a warning is very effective.

I have no doubt it would be for drink driving offenders but it is never used.
