I WOULD like to sincerely thank everybody in Horsley and Nailsworth who voted for me in the district elections.
It is a great honour to be their councillor, and I’ll endeavour to do my best to serve all the people of the town and Horsley.
But also please allow me to say that there is a further challenge facing us all.
In June there will be a referendum about our membership of the EU.
The clear view of both the Green Party and myself is that the country will be better served by remaining part of this union.
Much of the discussion has been centred on economics; will we be financially better or worse if we left? In fact nobody really knows.
But our parents and grandparents had to fight in the wars WW2 and indeed the WW1. It led to much suffering and privations.
The EU is not perfect and does need reform but it has helped to avoid the misery of war among member countries.
Across the member states we have learned to work together, and We have all benefited tremendously. It is a wonderful enterprise and we must stay in.
Norman Kay
Green Party district councillor
Nailsworth
