FOR the past 12 months or so I have been showing a serious interest in work undertaken by volunteer parish councillors at Rodborough Parish Council.

It has given me particular pleasure to see positive benefits emanating from their road safety initiatives. It has to be said that this success has not been achieved without significant effort, over the years from parish councillor Charles Pedrick, chairman of its road safety committee. In these circumstances, I hope that the SNJ could publish this letter of appreciation from a grateful resident.

I am confident that his work will bring about major improvements to reduce speeding in the country as a whole, possibly relieving UK citizens of injuries / loss of life arising from excessive speed of vehicles travelling in built-up areas. What is most significant, from his efforts in this regard, is the fact that the system he has managed to introduce achieves the objective without recourse to imposing significant financial / penalty points on the errant motorists the camera picks up. So many UK motorists are of the view that speed cameras have more to do with income generation for police budgets, rather than road safety.
