ON THE crackdown on anti-social behaviour in Nailsworth which could lead to the families of those responsible being evicted.

Posted by Mister Champagne: Great to hear some effective action is going to be taken. It’s not fair on the decent people in the area to have the cost and inconvenience of those nasty children doing pointless damage. Yes their parents should have brought them up to behave better but if all else fails then they should be moved on and the houses could be let to more deserving families. It would shake the vandals up and show them what it’s like to be inconvenienced and to have to go to some trouble and expense to secure themselves another property. Hopefully they’ll better appreciate their next house and local community (which usually ultimately pays towards their accommodation if not everything else too ).

On the death of a cow and her calf on Minchinhampton Common. Both were hit by vehicles.

Posted by Joe Stroud: I rarely go over the common late at night but I recently had to take friends home at 10.30pm. I was horrified how many cars were going over there at totally ridiculous speeds the cows stand no chance. For visitors to the area there is little or no visible signage at night to warn them but locals have no excuse with the speeds they were going. It may be time to review history....whilst there are ancient grazing rights there is always a good time to review what is no longer sensible or fair on the livestock. I would not put stock up there these days myself (let alone leave them up there until November as many farmers do due to early darkness falling etc) the commons carry huge amounts of traffic including plenty at night now and the numbers being maimed and killed are simply not worth it. Alternatively let those who want to use the free grazing and put their animals at risk in heavy traffic for six months pay for proper extensive illuminated signage at night for the months the cows are up there.
