ON the public meeting held in Nailsworth on Friday to discuss the refugee crisis Posted by Haloge: At the moment there are approximately 65 million forcibly displaced persons worldwide, excluding economic migrants who may actually exceed this figure. Now I have absolutely no doubt that there are many people in the EU and the UK who have been carried away by their humanitarian and empathic ethical certainties. Unfortunately, it would appear that these very same people seem remarkably naive and lacking in anything bordering on pragmatism. If you wish, like Mrs Merkel, to openly invite everyone who wants to come to turn up in your country without any consideration for the ability to cope, the demographics, and the possible consequences, then I trust you enjoy the real meaning of the social whirlwind that this will eventually unleash. The road to ruin is paved with good intentions, and these days I see people with good intentions everywhere but with no notion of where any of this is all leading.

Posted by Allan Zed: How do you determine if the ‘need for help’ is genuine? Most often the situation is self-inflicted.

Posted by robertpaterson3: I’m sure a number of topics will not be discussed. First, how successive British governments alongside the Americans created the refugee crisis in the first place. How our governments deliberately destabilised the Middle East so we could steal their oil. In the case of Afghanistan is was to protect the CIA’s access to the opium fields. We can’t let the Taliban control all the opium can we? The Syrian refugee crisis is a clear example of the failure of our Government to keep out of other people’s problems.
