I WAS somewhat aghast to learn that former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has been given an expenses allowance worth up to £115,000 a year which was previously only reserved for former Prime Ministers.

How can this be possible, what is it for and who has authorised it?

It seems unbelievable that a man such as Mr Clegg, whose main achievements so far seem to have have been reducing the numbers of Lib Dem MPs from 57 to 8; propping up the Tories in the Coalition Government as they introduced the pernicious Bedroom Tax; deceiving a whole generation of young people with regards to tuition fees despite a clear Lib Dem manifesto commitment to abolish them; and last but not least helping to usher in the 5p carrier bag charge, should be compensated in this way.

If ever there was a reward for failure this must surely be it.

Why do the rest of us have to fund Mr Clegg, especially in such a generous fashion?
