Copy of letter sent to the local authorities.

I FEEL compelled to bring to your attention that due to the appalling state of our roads in the whole of the county my vehicle failed the MOT test.

I have a very nice car which is only used occasionally and therefore does little mileage.

I have only owned this car for less than two years and when bought in October 2014 it had four almost new tyres.

Up to now my mileage has only been just over 3,000 and the tyre treads are still in almost new condition.

However, it failed the MOT test due to bulges in the tyre edges which the MOT centre and the tyre fitting garage have assured me is due to pothole damage.

I have today had to spend £635 on four new tyres as not only to pass the MOT but because they were deemed to be dangerous, these tyres should have been good for thousands of miles but I am under no illusion that this may be an annual expense if our road surfaces are not cared for properly.

We pay council tax, we pay car tax and now there are many more people contributing to the purse and yet we are forced to drive our vehicles over horrendous surfaces.

It has got so bad now that you do not look ahead to check on the traffic in front etc, but you are searching to avoid the next crater and zig zagging around them just to try and avoid any further vehicle damage.

I cannot give you any photographic evidence because on any journey locally there are so many craters, many unmarked but also loads of yellow rings which are already fading because the repairs are taking so long, so you do not see them before it is too late and sometimes you cannot avoid them totally without veering into the oncoming lane.

This situation must change for the better, in all my life I have never known the roads in general be so bad, when you now see potholes on the motorways which is unforgivable, it is no wonder there are accidents and for cyclists and motorcyclists it is doubly dangerous – why has it got to this?

I have enclosed copies of my MOT failure and the cost of refitting four new tyres.

I now implore you to repair all these potholes properly, just a patchwork quilt is not the answer as next winter we are back to square one.

Sometimes the whole road needs doing!
