THIS September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, when people all around the world work together to raise awareness of what it means to have cancer when you are young.

This year, CLIC Sargent is focussing on the financial impact of cancer, because when a child is diagnosed, often costs go up while incomes go down. It’s vital that families can access the financial support we provide, and we are asking your readers to take on the £170 challenge to make a real difference to the lives of children with cancer.

As well as the often devastating emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis, the resulting financial impact can be huge. Our £170 grants provide help to cope with immediate costs – such as petrol, household bills and parking – to stop cancer costs spiralling.

In 2015/16 CLIC Sargent was able to provide over £77,000 in grants in the South West. With your help we can continue providing this practical support to ease the financial burden of childhood cancer.

There are lots of ways you can take on the £170 challenge and raise vital funds.

You could

• get baking at work

• go gold at a school Mufti Day

• or sign up for the Gloucestershire Airport Runway Run on October 1

We’d love to see as many people as possible taking on the £170 challenge and raise awareness of childhood cancer. To find out more about upcoming activities, contact Caroline Marshall at 0117 311 2655 or caroline.marshall@clicsargent.org.uk.
