WE ARE concerned about the proposed night closure of Stroud’s Minor Injuries Unit.
Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust is looking to close the unit at 8pm or 11pm every night, meaning night-time patients will have to travel to Gloucester to receive treatment.
We believe this is another example of how Tory cuts affect our NHS and, as Labour councillors in Stroud, next month we’ll be putting our concerns in front of county health chiefs and Tory councillors at a meeting in Gloucester.
We’ll also seek assurances that it is not the first step in the eventual closure of the hospital.
The Stroud Labour Party has organised an online petition which can be signed at goo.gl/Ehfpsw We shall present it to the NHS Trust on the day its consultation ends this week.
The Tories are committed to wrecking the NHS. The Labour Party is committed to saving it. We shall speak for the majority of people in Stroud in demanding Stroud’s MIU remains open.
Yours faithfully, Town councillors: John Bloxsom, Central Ward.
Laurie Davies, Slade Ward Vanessa Price, Farmhill/Paganhill Ward Jim Thomson, Trinity Ward.
District/town councillor: Chas Townley, Uplands Ward District councillor: Skeena Rathor, Central Ward Doina Cornell, Stroud district councillor representative, health & social care scrutiny committee.
